Congratulations to our three new Inspire Facilitators who have completed more than seven months of intense training to be awarded their Accredited Diploma in Coach Training.

It’s all part of DHU’s forward planning when introducing the Inspire Programme, an initiative that has been introduced to change the culture of leadership to better support and empower teams across the organisation.

The programme is based around Coaching Led Leadership, whereby the leader encourages their team to come up with the solution to a particular issue themselves through conversation, reinforcing confidence in their own ability to succeed. By taking on this role and adopting this approach, they will be able to lead by example, support further delivery of the Inspire programme and their colleagues’ participation whilst continuing in their roles as leaders.

Deputy Director of Urgent Care Derbyshire Kirsty Osborn, Clinical Performance Manager Sarah Booker and Deputy Director of Urgent Care LLR Rob Haines (pictured left to right) have completed the Coaching Mastery course. This means that when Fields of Learning, the organisation providing the Inspire programme step aside at the end of the year, they will be able to support our Learning and Development Specialist Sharon Davies, to carry on the programme for DHU Healthcare.

"Already starting to see differences in approaches to leadership"

Kirsty told us: “It’s been an incredible experience and we have come a long way since taking that introductory module on November 22nd 2022. We’ve had a number of intense facilitator days where you’re encouraged to develop as a coach, leader, within yourself and your resilience. We also had to complete 70 hours of professional development, 40 hours of coaching, complete assignments and carry out presentations; it has been such a journey.

“We have put in some serious hours, but it has been transformational for all of us and we now have the knowledge and skills to take the Inspire programme forwards as an organisation. There will be more to follow and as the first few Inspire groups complete their coaching led leadership training, we’re already starting to see differences in their approach.

“As a leader it can be very easy to tell someone how to solve a particular problem or to do a particular task. If you take a different approach and talk to your colleague, encourage them to think about a task in a different way, you will find that in many cases they know the answer, or at least how to get it. That’s such an empowering thing and creates that feeling of confidence that, over time, sees your team coming up with their own solutions independently which is much more efficient and exactly the way to foster innovation and independent thought.

“It is up to all of us taking part in Inspire to lead by example and act as role models for a culture change within DHU. I’m so excited to be part of this approach and as more people go through the programme over the coming year, our aim is to completely embed this style of leadership and culture within DHU. Together we will create an environment where people can flourish and lead together.”
