Preventing the spread of infection is everybody’s responsibility from the Executive Board to patients, staff and the public.

Charters have been established across all health care organisations in the region. The DHU Healthcare CIC Cleanliness Charter sets out the standards required to ensure that the highest Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C)  standards are delivered throughout the organisation.

You can view our charter here.

Training

Strict adherence to the IP&C policy is expected of all DHU Healthcare employees with all new staff receiving training as part of their induction and existing staff receiving annual refreshers. Information is available for all staff via a dedicated staff Intranet page and regular communications.

Monitoring

The incidence of episodes of infection affecting patients and/or staff, at clinical and non-clinical sites are constantly analysed alongside regular site and vehicle audits.

How can I help?

Adopt a good, thorough and regular hand hygiene regime, either with soap and water or with alcohol-based handrub. Also, avoid coming into our buildings if you are, or have recently experienced the symptoms of Norovirus (diarrhoea and vomiting) or flu-like symptoms that can be treated at home to avoid spreading infections to others.

This short video demonstrates the best technique for washing your hands.
