We’ve been celebrating a significant milestone in our continued commitment to patient and staff safety at DHU.

At a special event at our 111 Advice Centre in Derby, our Director of Nursing and Quality Jenny Tilson presented our new Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Champions with their badges.

Our IPC Champions play an important role across DHU, working hard to maintain and improve our infection control standards, sharing ideas and best practice. With nearly 50 different sites across the Midlands, ensuring consistent compliance with our rigorous IPC standards is challenging. This is where our Champions come into their own.

Jenny Tilson, who had the honour of awarding the badges, told us: "Our Champions are at the forefront of our commitment to safeguard our patients and staff. Their role as local leaders and advocates for IPC practices is invaluable in maintaining a safe and healthy environment across all our sites. By encouraging their colleagues to adhere to best practices and having the courage to challenge, they set the standard for excellence in healthcare. Today not only recognises their hard work but reinforces the critical importance of IPC in everything we do at DHU."

Our 20 IPC Champions hail from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, both clinical and non-clinical, covering various shifts and sites around the clock. They serve as role models, local leaders, and visible advocates for infection prevention and control, embedding good practice amongst our colleagues and working with them to keep standards high.

Zoe Hunt is DHU’s Clinical Practice Development Lead, she said: “I wanted to thank all our champions for consistently balancing their day-to-day responsibilities with the additional task of conducting IPC audits and inspections. They are essential in keeping our standards high, spotting trends and ensuring our infection prevention messages reach our people. This is all about ensuring our patients and colleagues can provide care in the best environment possible.”

By fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, our IPC Champions ensure that DHU remains a leader in delivering high-quality care and putting the patient at the centre of everything we do.
