The Women's World Cup may have just started but DHU Healthcare's regional NHS111 services have done their best to upstage the Lionesses, putting their East and West Midlands rivalry to a 5-a-side football test.

Having taken over the contract to run the West Midlands 111 service in March this year, DHU's East and West centres took part in their first-ever match for what turned out to be a high scoring, good-natured affair!

Designed to be a fun, healthy and entertaining way to promote teamwork, solidarity and a bit of healthy competition, the two action-packed matches that took part over consecutive days. It turned out that West was best as they emerged victorious with an impressive 14-5 aggregate scoreline.

The mini-tournament showcased the spirit of sportsmanship but also allowed DHU Healthcare's NHS111 team to bond with their local communities and promote the importance that sport that can play for both physical and mental health and well-being.

Leigha Guy, DHU 111's Staff Engagement Officer at our Oldbury advice centre, told us: “The atmosphere was fantastic, with everyone getting a chance to show off their skills and meet colleagues who they might not often get a chance to see.

“It was really encouraging to see team members across the service coming together to promote well-being and bring two regions closer together – as well as having a good time! DHU Healthcare's initiative sets an inspiring example for other healthcare organisations and who knows, in the future we might be able to bring other health partenrs together.”

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the competition, with a special mention to Asif, who showed wonderful impartiality as the referee to ensure the spirit of fair play, and Zaf, whose contribution to sourcing the kit and equipment underscored the significance and importance of collaboration.

This first match promoted sportsmanship and community engagement, emphasising the importance of health and well-being both inside and outside of work.

We're sure this will become a regular tradition for everyone involved.
