We’re always inspired by colleagues who go above and beyond to support their local communities. Nurse Advisor Sara Cobley, one of our NHS111 remote workers, is one such individual, dedicating her time and energy to fundraising for Ashgate Hospice.
This year, Sara is taking her commitment to new heights, quite literally, with a skydive in July! "I've always wanted to do a skydive, but if I'm going to do it, I want it to be for a purpose," she said. "Ashgate Hospice is such an important part of our community, and having worked in a hospice myself, I know just how vital their care is. They don’t just support people with cancer, but also those with other life-shortening illnesses, as well as their families during and after their loved one's care."
Sara’s connection to hospice care is deeply personal. "Over the past two years, my husband and I have lost three family members to cancer. One of them was cared for at Ashgate Hospice, and the support they provided was incredible. Seeing first-hand the difference they make is why I’m so passionate about fundraising for them."
She isn’t stopping there. Sara will also take part in the Sparkle Walk on 28th June, where thousands light up Chesterfield’s streets in a dazzling show of support. "It’s an amazing sight…just imagine a sea of sparkling bunny ears walking through the town! The community support is incredible."
But that’s not all, she and Kelly Henderson are planning to complete an 11-mile hike for the hospice in March. "After my weight-loss journey, being able to take on these challenges means so much to me.”
With hospices relying entirely on donations to continue their essential work, Sara is determined to do her part. "They provide NHS-level care but don’t actually receive NHS funding, which many people don’t realise. That’s why fundraising is so important."
With her determination and fundraising spirit, Sara is making a real difference. If you’d like to support her efforts, check out her fundraising page here.
