It may have been a white wedding, but DHU blue played a prominent part as team members dressed in scrubs crashed their manager’s special day in Leicester earlier this month.
DHU’s Clinical Triage Leader, Jayne Birchall, tied the knot with her partner at the Leicester Registry Office, which just happens to be next door to DHU’s Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland head office.
The triage clinicians started together in Leicester in 2019 and are a close-knit team who formed very close bonds, working relationships and genuine friendship as they supported each other through the covid pandemic.
The Clinical Triage Team work alongside GPs to provide clinical advice for those calling NHS111 needing help, making sure they are given the right advice and directed to the most appropriate place for their treatment based on their symptoms. The team very recently moved from their base at Fosse House in Leicester to Anstey Frith House in the Leicestershire County Council’s headquarters and it was thanks to their close proximity to the registry office that they were there for Jayne’s big day.
Due to her partner’s illness, they decided to bring their wedding day forward and managed to plan the event in a few short months, there was no way her colleagues were going to miss the chance to toast the happy couple.
Speaking about the day, Jayne said: “I invited the team, but as you can imagine it’s not always easy working around shift patterns, especially when it all happened so quickly. Luckily, with the registry office being just next door, they were able to drop in on their break, scrubs and all, to be part of our celebrations and be in some of the photos!
“I know everyone says their wedding is a lovely day, one to remember, but it really was with perfect weather, everyone was so happy and to have my friends there really did make it all the more special. It was a small occasion with family and I wasn’t sure if any of the team would be able to make it so, when I came out of the ceremony to have some photos taken and there were all my workmates standing ready with bags of confetti, it was very emotional. I was so happy they could be a part of it.
“One of the girls did manage to get the day off and was part of the ceremony, but seeing the others was quite a surprise as I wasn’t expecting them. I’m normally one to hide in the background, but on this occasion, I wasn’t able to get away with it.”
On behalf of everyone at DHU Healthcare, congratulations to Jayne and we’re so pleased that she had such a perfect day.
