Our ‘Charity Champions’ are dedicated volunteers within DHU Healthcare who work tirelessly to make a positive impact within the communities we serve and raise money for important causes.
From organising fundraising events, to raising awareness for important causes, they are adding social value and making a positive impact.
Every month we celebrate their efforts and this February we have some more great examples to share.
Charity Concert to Support Air Ambulance Service
One of our DHU colleagues Jane Stocker (Home Visiting Services, LLR) is organising a charity concert to support the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service. This important service provides emergency medical assistance to those in need, and relies heavily on charitable donations to keep running.
Jane will be donating her time and talents to help raise funds for the Air Ambulance. With a great turnout and enthusiastic support from the community, the event will no doubt be a huge success. Jane told us: “I've been a keen musician for many years and I play the trumpet, piano and electronic organ.
“I chose the charity as it is fully reliant on donations, with no government help given to them. Having worked in the Ambulance service for over 23 years I have attended many emergencies where the Air Ambulance has been called. They are a vital service and even if it’s one life they save, time is of the essence.
“A lot of charities have lost some of their income through the pandemic, so anything I can raise will be appreciated.”
It's inspiring to see how a small group of individuals can come together to make a big difference in their community. Alongside all of our Charity Champions, we're proud to work with such dedicated and compassionate colleagues.
Marching Forwards for Sands
This March Rhianne Jenner, one of our Health Advisors within the 111 team, has committed to walking 100km for the charity Sands.
Rhianne is taking on the challenge throughout the month and needs your help to reach her goal. She is aiming to contribute £600, all of which will make an impact towards a charity who help save babies' lives and support bereaved families.
Rhianne said: “I chose the charity Sands as it has helped and supported our family during a time of loss. £20 raised enables Sands to provide a bereaved family with a memory box so that they can make precious memories with their baby. Sands is a lesser-known charity, so I’m hoping that by raising £600 I will be able to support their cause and raise awareness of the work they do.”

Tyre Challenge for Turkey and Syria
Debbie Kemp’s grandson, James Gregory, is going to be completing a 3-mile walk with a tyre strapped to his back to raise money for the recent events in Turkey and Syria.
James, who is only 11 years old, said: “After recent events in Turkey and Syria I have decided to fundraise to raise money for medical help, food, water and shelter for people in need of help. I will be completing a sponsored 3 mile walk with a 1 stone tyre strapped to my back.
“This challenge means a lot to me after my nana completed a half marathon tyre challenge last year to raise money for her fitness group!”
