Our people are what make DHU what it is, so today we’d like to introduce you to the brilliant Sarah Cherry, Clinical Service Lead and Advanced Practitioner based in Leicester.
Sarah has been with DHU for just over five years and has grown within the organisation, splitting her time between managing several clinical services and performing her own clinical role.
Sarah told us: “My time is split between my Clinical Service Lead and Advanced Practitioner roles. I look after the Clinical Assessment Service that helps to ensure patients needing urgent care get it from the most appropriate place in a timely way. I also look after various projects such as the introduction of new systems and processes within my service as well as being involved with seasonal projects such as the Flu Campaign.
“Innovation and advancement is an important and perhaps underappreciated part of our health system. Without it we wouldn’t be able to continuously improve and provide our people with the best possible tools, systems and treatments to be able to adapt the care of our patients. It’s something I’m passionate about and delighted that DHU is forward thinking enough to value it highly.
“In terms of my clinical role, I was a Clinical Practitioner when DHU took over the provision of our Leicester services and the move has been very good for my personal development. I very recently graduated with a Distinction in my Advanced Clinical Practice Masters which was supported through DHU. It means I have improved my skills and given DHU more scope to use them in my role. I’m about to embark on a second Masters in Leadership and Management to complement my management role.
“I thoroughly enjoy adult learning, both the clinical and research modules allowed me to develop and expand my skills - and I do have a passion for statistics and analysis! I’ve found DHU very supportive in this which shows a genuine investment and value in me as an individual.
“I’m also very fortunate to have a fantastic team working alongside me in Leicester and other sites that I regularly visit. We’re very close professionally and socially which provides that emotional support that everybody needs within healthcare. It’s a cliché but also genuinely true that every day is different which keeps me busy, interested and determined to develop and progress.”
