As part of our ongoing "Meet the Team" series, we'd like to introduce Jessica Delgado, a receptionist based at Northampton General Hospital within our Urgent Care team. Jessica's journey, experiences, and dedication provide a glimpse into the diverse and dynamic roles that make up our organisation.
Jessica told us: “I’m a receptionist here at Northampton General Hospital, working mainly out-of-hours when the GP surgeries are closed. My role involves calling patients, matching them to a base, and ensuring they’re seen by the right clinicians. I keep an eye on the patients while they wait, making sure they’re comfortable, as well as they can be and if their condition worsens, I can quickly escalate to a clinician. It’s a job that requires multitasking and quick thinking, but it’s also about having compassion for people who are in pain or anxious about why they come in.
“Before joining DHU, I had a varied work history, including roles in healthcare and administration. I chose this position because of the flexibility it offers. I can pick up shifts as and when I need them, which suits me well, allowing me to maintain a good balance.
“One thing I really appreciate about working here is the sense of teamwork. Whether it’s the management, my fellow receptionists, or the clinicians, everyone is supportive. It feels like a real team, which is important to me when I come into work. I also love that I get to interact with a diverse range of patients, from newborns to the elderly, who all need care in different circumstances. For example we see people who have just been released from prison; every day is different and that keeps things interesting.”
Jessica’s commitment to her role and her thoughtful approach to patient care highlights the values that DHU stands for. Her story is a great example of the importance of every position within our team and the compassion, adaptability, and resilience our people bring to their roles.
