As part of our ongoing Meet the Team series, and in celebration of National Receptionist Day, we’re shining a spotlight on one of the friendly faces who help keep things running smoothly at DHU’s Oldbury site, Hifza Amir.

Hifza’s journey with DHU began shortly after she graduated with a degree in Human Resource Management. “After university, I was job hunting for a while and came across a Health Advisor role,” she explained. “It involved a short CPC training course, which led to an interview and my first role with DHU.”

After spending a year as a Health Advisor, Hifza saw an opportunity to move into administration. “I enjoyed helping patients over the phone, but I realised I was better suited to something else. I saw the Admin Assistant role come up and applied and thankfully, I got it. I’ve loved it ever since.”

Hifza is part of a small but busy team of three alongside colleagues Maria and Kelsey, working rotating shifts. “We’re basically the front of house for the Oldbury site, so we do a bit of everything, signing visitors in, managing emails, handling reception duties and supporting staff who drop by.”

Each is day is different and can include everything from managing DHU’s mandatory training tracker, ordering flowers for colleagues, and helping to coordinate Monday and Wednesday assessment days with the Talent Aquisition team. “We help welcome candidates and make sure they’re signed in and ready. I really enjoy that as it gives me a little insight into the kind of work I’d like to do in future.”

Her HR degree is never far from her mind, and she’s excited about progressing further. “Recruitment and talent acquisition are areas I’d love to explore. Supporting assessment days gives me a taste of that, and it’s made me realise how much I enjoy being part of someone’s journey into the organisation.”

Reflecting on her time at DHU, Hifza says the support she’s received has been a key part of her development. “My manager really helped me move into this role and encouraged me to apply. I’ve learned so much and when I look back at how I was at the beginning, I’ve come a long way. Now, I feel confident and comfortable in what I do.”

We’re proud to celebrate Hifza and all our incredible receptionists staff today.
