This week we’d like to introduce you to Nick Bailey, who is an Interim Transport Manager working in our Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) team.

Nick has worked for DHU for three and half years and plays a vital role within the team, ensuring that our fleet of cars can get our colleagues to where they need to be.

Nick said: “Before joining DHU I was working at Rolls-Royce in Bristol as an Engineering Technician. I then joined Leicestershire Police and eventually fulfilled my dream job, as a Traffic Cop. After 28 years as a Police Officer I retired in 2015 and worked as a Compliance Manager for a vehicle recovery company. I joined DHU in 2019 as a Lead Driver at LLR and then I became Interim Transport Manager in August 2020.”

“Day to day I’m responsible for running of the LLR Transport department. This entails maintaining and keeping the Home Visiting fleet on the road, looking after and managing my staff of over 70 drivers. Ensuring compliance with policy and procedures. Conducting interviews/inductions for new drivers and general problem-solving issues that occur on a daily basis.

“A typical day for me starts at 7am, where I am able to catch up with night shift drivers finishing their shifts. I check the daily incident log for any transport related issues and then prioritise my to do lists. We have daily management sit rep meetings and I regularly liaise with other managers and teams within DHU, in relation to the day to day running of the home visiting service.

“What I like the most about working for DHU is the good cohesion between the various teams and having the opportunity to be able to help out wherever I can. I am proud to be a part of a company with such a great reputation.

“One of my proudest moments working for DHU has been as a Driving Assessor. As part of this role I had to attend an Advanced Assessors course, ran by the IAM. On the final driving test, I was awarded a First Pass, this is the highest pass level you can achieve. Also, being asked to perform the role of Interim Transport Manager. A role that I thoroughly enjoy. I feel that I am treated with respect and given daily encouragement for what I bring to the company.

“For those who don’t me I have a good sense of humour, I am a Chocoholic (but do go to the gym). I play Bass Guitar and enjoy Photography, Kayaking and DIY. I am always keen to learn new skills and I like to pass my skills onto others. If I could give advice to anyone it would be to always try to go above and beyond and do your best at everything you do. Do not wish your life away. Live and love life!”

Thanks to Nick for telling us about his role and keep your eyes peeled for DHU’s next #WhatDoYouDo.7
