We’d like to introduce you to Michelle who has worked at DHU for nine years, starting here as a Clinical/Training Administrator working part-time before progressing to a full time role as a Clinical/Training Co-ordinator.

But what is a Clinical/Training Co-Ordinator? Here’s Michelle to explain!

I have worked within the NHS for nearly 25 years, starting at Avenue House Surgery as PA to one of the Partners. I then worked at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as PA to the ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Consultant which I did for five years before landing a secondment opportunity within the Cancer Pathway Team which led to a promotion in the department as Team Leader.  

“I always knew at school that I wanted to work for the NHS and even when I had a 5 year career break to have my children I didn’t think for a second that I would not return. Luckily I saw an opportunity arise working for DHU within the Training team as an Administrator.’ 

“I love the variation of my role as no two days are the same and I enjoy getting to know the new members of staff who join DHU. I support both the ACP and the Lead Clinical Mandatory Trainer. My main duty is to ensure we maintain compliance with mandatory training and most modules requiring completion by our staff on a yearly basis. This may sound tedious but this enables our people to help their colleagues, family members or the public in case of, for example, a resuscitation emergency.

“It’s also vital to know all about safe practice at work, ensure colleagues are aware of any potential hazards, maintain infection control regimes, know how to highlight any potential data security issues and help identify the signs of Safeguarding within Adults or Children. I also support the Clinical Directors with the GP rotations and induction processes. It is amazing to see our GP’s start out as ST1s and then return to the organisation after completing their rotational journey to work as Locums with DHU.’

“I am very passionate about the retention of staff working for DHU and we have an amazing skill base across the organisation. If a learning gap is identified, I like to work with the managers to ensure we provide training both internally and externally to bridge that gap.  We have excellent Clinical Trainers within our own DHU workforce with a plethora of knowledge across all clinical requirements who offer weekly and monthly teaching sessions. I also source external courses and trainers to facilitate any upskilling required from Housekeepers to Corporate and Admin services. This ensures that everyone has the opportunity to develop themselves educationally and to achieve progression within DHU.

“My work colleagues are my work family and without each other we couldn’t do our jobs effectively.  I love the camaraderie we have and I feel supported by all my colleagues.

“I feel privileged to work for DHU with these amazing people.”
