Angela Claytor is a member of the NHS111 team and has held the role of Non-clinical Performance Manager (NCPM) since December of last year. She has been a part of DHU Healthcare for four years and is an integral member of the close-knit night team situated at Ashgate Manor in Chesterfield.

We caught up with her to find out a bit more about her time with us…

Angela shared with us: "Before joining DHU, I enjoyed a rewarding ten-year career as a teaching assistant. However, there comes a point in life when you realise you're prepared for something different – a new challenge. When the opportunity arose at DHU, I wasn't fully acquainted with NHS111 or the specifics of the role. Nonetheless, my interest was piqued, and I knew it would be a truly different experience."

"At the outset, I was content with handling phone calls and interacting with patients. Initially, I wasn't inclined towards advancement, even though my manager encouraged me to take up coaching others. She gave me space and, eventually, when I was ready, I embraced that next step. Recognising this as a hallmark of a good manager, it's a lesson I've certainly learnt from her."

"Assisting, motivating, and nurturing individuals has always been fulfilling for me, making the transition to the NCPM role a seamless progression. Despite performance monitoring being a pivotal aspect, for me it always comes down to ensuing that people are looked after and that they are valued."

"A typical day involves addressing shift-related issues, serving as the go-to person for assistance. If I don't have the answer, I can typically guide them in the right direction. I conduct audits, hold one-on-one sessions, fostering progression and strengthening team bonds. I genuinely relish my job and derive satisfaction from knowing I'm helping people."

"The most gratifying aspect of being an NCPM is the nurturing, pastoral dimension of the role and the assurance that people feel at ease approaching me with problems. To me, it's all about building trust and being a reliable presence for the team."

“It always makes me proud to see people that I coached become coaches. Passing down the knowledge I have gained and watching as others have developed and progressed with their roles at DHU. It’s nice to think that I was part of their journey and that I started them off on the right foot.”

“I’m a night person for sure and wouldn’t change it for the world. Working nights is very unique experience with its own challenges, but the support is always there. We’re like a little family who look out for each other.”
