Nicola’s journey with DHU began in 2011 when she transferred with the community nursing service to Whitworth Hospital in Matlock, initially working as a Health Care Assistant with the evening nursing team. She also held a role as a maternity support assistant with Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Driven by a passion for community care, Nicola has steadily advanced, first becoming a Nursing Associate, then an Assistant Practitioner, and now achieving her long-term goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. She’s set to rejoin the DHU Matlock team as a Community Staff Nurse, working alongside her daytime role with Derbyshire Community Health Services (DCHS).

Nicola’s path echoes that of her mother, Sandra Mather, another DHU Matlock team member. Sandra, too, started as a Health Care Assistant before progressing to Registered Nurse, and now holds a Specialist Qualification in District Nursing.

Nicola shared her thoughts on her achievement: “I’m grateful for the encouragement and support I’ve received over the years, especially from my family and my DHU colleagues. It’s been inspiring to follow in my mum’s footsteps and share this journey with her.”

Tracy Fudge, DHU’s Head of Community Nursing, expressed her pride in Nicola’s accomplishment. “I am so proud of both Sandra and Nicola. To watch their development into accomplished nurses has been inspiring. Congratulations to Nicola on this wonderful achievement!”
