Our DHU People Excellence Awards showcase inspirational individuals for their outstanding achievements, incredible successes, and for surpassing expectations.

This time, we’re recognising Chesterfield based Healthcare Assistants, Gemma Bollands and Emma Simpson. They were both nominated by their colleague, Diane Shardlow, for their dedication and compassion during a challenging incident at the end of last year.

During a routine welfare phone check on one of their patients, Emma observed something unsettling in the patient's voice. Without hesitation, both Gemma and Emma volunteered to visit the patient and her husband. Despite nearing the end of their shift, they instinctively recognised the immediate need for support, engaging in emotionally challenging tasks with professionalism and care.

Stephen Bateman, Chief Executive at DHU Healthcare said: "I am honoured to present Gemma & Emma with this award, acknowledging their exceptional support and dedication during a distressing home visit where an individual sadly died by suicide.

"In the face of such a difficult situation, they both demonstrated an extraordinary level of sensitivity, emotional support, and professionalism.

"Their actions were truly commendable, providing the utmost care and offering solace to the grieving family members affected. I am sincerely grateful for your outstanding contributions and the positive impact you have made within DHU and the communities we serve."

Alongside receiving a certificate, pin badge, and voucher, Gemma and Emma's People Excellence Award will also benefit a charity of their choice with a donation.
