DHU has found a new home for essential medical equipment to support their patient care.

During the covid pandemic, pulse oximeters were provided by NHSE/Derby & Derbyshire Integrated Care Board for a Virtual Ward programme called ‘Oximetry at Home’.

Due to circumstances changing there was no longer a requirement for the remaining oximeters, so with permission, DHU donated to several organisations to ensure more patients are able to benefit from the kit.

Debbie Kemp, Head of Operations Urgent Care (North), celebrated the Derbyshire team's efforts, recognising the significant impact these oximeters will have within the community. "The team have done some excellent work in coordinating the donation of 4,360 oximeters within the community and to charities. I want to say a huge ‘Well done’ to everyone who helped out, these oximeters will make a big difference to a lot of people."

Kirsy Osborn, Deputy Director Urgent Care (North), highlighted the broad-reaching effects of DHU Healthcare's donation, underscoring the gratitude expressed by various service providers and charities. "During the covid pandemic the oximeter, with its ability to rapidly detect changes in oxygen levels, became an essential tool for early intervention and improved patient outcomes.

“We knew the remaining devices would make a big difference locally and began by identifying where the need was. The next step was for our team get out on the road, making deliveries in person to charities, churches, local authorities and other healthcare providers operating across our region.

“From care homes to the National Police Aid Charity, our teams met thankful colleagues who are working together to improve healthcare outcomes within the community.”

We would like to thank our urgent care teams for their excellent work supporting with the donations of the oximeters.
