This December, DHU Healthcare colleagues across our sites embraced the festive spirit with our Christmas Drop & Swap events—a creative and meaningful initiative designed to support both our people and the planet.

The event encouraged a shift towards a circular economy by providing an opportunity for staff to donate pre-loved items, which could then find new homes among colleagues. From clothing and books to toys, jewellery, and ornaments, the donations were as diverse as they were generous.

Lucy Bates, DHU’s Sustainability Net Zero Lead, shared her gratitude: "I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the Drop & Swap event. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and community spirit among our staff. This initiative allowed us to reflect on what we no longer need and how those items could benefit others."

After the event, remaining items were donated to the Salvation Army, ensuring they would bring joy and relief to individuals and families in need just in time for Christmas.

Promoting Sustainability Through Action

The Drop & Swap initiative is part of DHU Healthcare’s broader commitment to sustainability, as outlined in our Green Plan.

At DHU Healthcare, sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a shared responsibility. Through events like Drop & Swap, we aim to lead by example, inspiring small but impactful choices that contribute to a healthier planet.

A Step Towards a Greener Future

Whether by donating items we no longer need or choosing pre-loved goods, every step we take moves us closer to a sustainable future—one that balances environmental well-being with social responsibility.

This Christmas, DHU Healthcare’s Drop & Swap demonstrated how collective action can create positive change, strengthening our community and aligning with our mission to deliver greener, more sustainable health care solutions.
