On World Cancer Day 2025, DHU Healthcare proudly joined forces with Against Breast Cancer to launch the ‘Bin Your Bra’ initiative across our sites.
The campaign was established to encourage colleagues to donate their old or unused bras, helping to fund life-saving breast cancer research while supporting sustainable recycling efforts.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in the UK, with 1 in 7 women diagnosed in their lifetime. With three-quarters of DHU’s workforce being women, this cause is one close to our colleagues hearts. The initiative not only raises awareness but also contributes to pioneering breast cancer research, landfill waste reduction, and global textile recovery projects.
Making a Difference, One Bra at a Time
For every ton of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund critical research. Beyond financial support, the campaign gave second life to textiles, preventing waste and creating income opportunities for communities worldwide.
This initiative was championed by Peter Miles, DHU’s Transport & Vehicle Management Coordinator, whose wife’s experience with breast cancer inspired him to take action. Peter shared:
"When my wife was diagnosed, it changed our lives forever. The fear, the treatments, and the uncertainty were overwhelming, but the support from colleagues made a world of difference. This project was my way of giving back and helping others facing the same journey."
Bra bins have been set up at key DHU sites, including Roundhouse, Orbis, Anstey, The Quad, and Birch House, making it easy for colleagues to contribute.
At DHU Healthcare, we are committed to supporting our communities and making a tangible difference to health inequality. The ‘Bin Your Bra’ initiative was one of many ways we continue to champion health, sustainability, and research for a brighter future.
