DHU Healthcare is proud to announce the addition of two new fully electric vehicles to its fleet for the first time.
The Volkswagen ID4's will be used by the Derbyshire Community Nursing Team, marking a significant milestone in the company's commitment to environmental responsibility.
The new vehicles represent a shift towards sustainable transportation solutions. With both of DHU Healthcare's sites in Derby equipped with electric charging units, the transition to electric vehicles aligns perfectly with the company's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.
Currently operating a hybrid fleet of cars, the decision to move towards fully electric vehicles with their fleet underscores DHU Healthcare's determination to lead by example in as an environmentally conscious healthcare provider.
The move not only demonstrates the company's commitment to its environmental responsibilities as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and social enterprise but also serves as a testament to its dedication to supporting NHS frontline services while addressing the challenge of climate change.
Carol Goodwin, Head of Estates, Facilities, and Health & Safety at DHU Healthcare, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "The introduction of fully electric vehicles to our fleet is a significant step forward in our journey towards sustainability. By embracing cleaner transportation options, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting a positive example for others in the healthcare industry."
Paul Cogan, Transport Manager at DHU Healthcare, emphasized the practical advantages of the VW ID4's, remarking, "These electric vehicles not only align with our environmental goals but also offer practical benefits such as lower operating costs and reduced maintenance requirements. We are excited to incorporate these vehicles into our operations and continue making strides towards a greener future."
The introduction of fully electric vehicles is part of DHU Healthcare's broader Green Plan, launched last year, which outlines the company's ambitious goals for environmental sustainability.
By reaching net zero carbon by 2040 and aiming for an 80% reduction by 2043, DHU Healthcare is committed to minimising its environmental impact while supporting the communities it serves.
