Four members of DHU Healthcare’s Derbyshire team will soon take to the stage at Chesterfield’s iconic Crooked Spire as part of the Rose Choir, performing in the highly anticipated concert, A Northern Requiem, on 12th October 2024.

The DHU colleagues performing include Dr. Linda Thwaite, GP at Eyam Practice, Wendy Rayner, Advanced Practitioner, Helen Johnson, Professional Practice Development Manager, and Shelley Towe, Senior Health Care Assistant. Their involvement in this performance is a testament to the diverse talents and dedication of DHU staff, who contribute not only through their healthcare roles but also to the cultural fabric of the local community.

Helen Johnson, Professional Practice Development Manager at DHU Healthcare, shared her excitement: "We’re thrilled to be part of something so special, contributing not just musically but also helping to support the arts in our community. It’s about preserving the history of the area while looking to the future."

The Northern Requiem, composed by Jonathan Francis, Artistic Director at Chesterfield Studios, marks 40 years since the miners' strike and reflects on the profound impact the pit closures had on local communities. The choir will be accompanied by Harlequin Brass, organist George Parsons, and mezzo-soprano Louise Collett. In an exciting development, the choir’s rehearsals were filmed by Channel 4 News and will be broadcast ahead of the performance.

All proceeds from the concert will support the development of the new Rose Hill Arts Centre in Chesterfield, which aims to become a vibrant hub for creativity and community engagement. The centre, housed in the former United Reformed Church on Rose Hill, will offer opportunities for local residents to access the arts, making it a meaningful project for everyone involved.

At DHU Healthcare, we are proud to see our colleagues making such positive contributions to local life, both within and outside of their healthcare roles. Their participation in this event is just one example of the many ways our staff give back to the communities they serve.
