DHU Healthcare is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Nurcombe as its next Chair of the Board of Directors. Keith will officially assume the role in April 2025, succeeding David Whitney, who will step down after a decade of exceptional leadership.
Keith returns to DHU Healthcare, having previously served as a Non-Executive Director from 2015 to 2019. During that time, he played a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction. Since then, he has taken on leadership roles in healthcare innovation and transformation, positioning him well to guide DHU during a critical period of growth and change.
With over 30 years of experience across the public and private healthcare sectors, Keith brings extensive expertise to his new role. His career includes Non-Executive Director positions at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trusts, where he helped deliver significant digital transformation initiatives, including shared care and electronic patient record systems. Beyond healthcare, Keith has held leadership roles with The Avalon Group, a charity supporting adults with disabilities, and the Cabinet Office, contributing to the enhancement of healthcare and community services.
Commenting on his appointment, Keith said:
"Since I was last involved with DHU, the organisation has more than doubled in size and played a significant role in the NHS’ response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The dedication and resilience of colleagues across DHU have been extraordinary, and it’s clear the organisation has established itself as a vital part of the NHS and our communities. I’m honoured to build on my NHS experience to take on this role at such an exciting time and look forward to working with the Board, leadership team, and all colleagues to help DHU continue delivering outstanding care to the communities we serve."
Keith will work closely with outgoing Chair David Whitney during a transition period to ensure a smooth handover. Under David’s leadership, DHU Healthcare has experienced significant growth, doubling in size, enhancing its reputation, and cementing its position as a trusted NHS partner.
Paying tribute to David’s contributions, DHU’s Chief Executive said:
"David’s leadership has been transformational. He has been instrumental in positioning DHU as a trusted partner to the NHS and a leader in social value and community-focused healthcare. His vision, dedication, and commitment have left a legacy, and we look forward to celebrating his remarkable achievements in the coming months. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Keith as our incoming Chair. With Keith’s extensive experience and passion for healthcare innovation, we are confident he will build on David’s legacy and guide DHU into an exciting new chapter."
