DHU Healthcare was pleased to welcome Tracy Harrison, Chief Executive of local charity Safe and Sound, to its Head Office in Derby on Tuesday, 23 April.

Tracy visited to personally thank Operations Manager Debbie Kemp, who recently completed the Brighton Marathon and raised over £1,000 in support of the charity’s vital work.

The donation will help fund essential support for young people and families across Derbyshire who are affected by child exploitation.

Earlier in the month, Debbie took on the 26.2-mile Brighton Marathon in support of Safe and Sound, a Derby-based charity dedicated to protecting and empowering children and young people whose lives are impacted by exploitation.

“I’ve taken on some pretty extreme challenges over the past few years,” Debbie shared. “I’ve completed a half-marathon carrying a 22lb tyre and even walked a full marathon with a 33lb tyre on my back. These events have tested my endurance and raised vital funds for causes close to my heart, including Cancer Research UK and AAJ, a local fitness and running club. But this time, I swapped the tyre for 26.2 miles along the Brighton seafront...and while the challenge was different, it was no less meaningful.”

Debbie said the decision to support Safe and Sound was deeply personal. “It’s a local charity that does incredible work with vulnerable young people in our community. It was tough, but knowing that every step I took could help make a real difference made it all worthwhile.”

Tracy Harrison, CEO of Safe and Sound, said: “Debbie’s support means the world to us. At Safe and Sound, we work with children and young people across Derbyshire who are at risk of or are experiencing child exploitation. That might include sexual or criminal exploitation, county lines activity, trafficking or online grooming. Our team provides long-term, one-to-one support, helping young people to stay safe, rebuild their confidence and find a more positive future.

“We are not government funded, so alongside grant applications, we rely heavily on the generosity of individuals and organisations to meet our annual fundraising target of £80,000. Donations like this, especially when supported by local organisations like DHU Healthcare, help us continue this vital work in the heart of our communities.”

DHU Healthcare is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing urgent and primary care services to communities across the Midlands. As a values-led organisation, it reinvests any surplus into enhancing patient care, supporting its people, and making a positive difference through initiatives such as its Social Impact Committee.
