We are proud to share the story of Danielle Dustan, one of our Triage Clinicians from our Urgent Care (North) team, who has taken a commendable step to support The Little Princess Trust.
The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or conditions such as Alopecia. Additionally, the charity funds vital childhood cancer research, relying on the generosity of its supporters.
Reflecting on her decision, Danielle shared, "Anyone who knows me knows I love my hair! It was a scary thought to go from ‘Rapunzel’ to having hair shorter than my partner’s. However, it’s a brilliant cause, and I’ve been thinking about it all year, so I finally plucked up the courage to get rid of my shield and have the cut.
"As healthcare professionals, we’ve all seen how devastating hair loss can be for those with medical conditions. Often, when people donate platelets, they know someone affected by cancer, and hair loss is a recurring topic.
"Discovering The Little Princess Trust and their story moved me deeply. It made me think about how I would feel if I lost my hair as an adult—I would be devastated. This was an amazing opportunity to bring some joy to a child or young person going through something so difficult.
"I feel very humbled and overwhelmed by the amount of support and donations everyone has given. It costs around £700 to make a wig, but every little helps! Thank you to everyone who donates.”
Danielle’s generous act highlights the profound impact we can all make in supporting those facing challenging times. To support her cause, please visit The Little Princess Trust here.
