Our ‘Charity Champions’ are dedicated volunteers within DHU Healthcare who work tirelessly to make a positive impact within the communities we serve and raise money for important causes.

From organising fundraising events, to raising awareness for important causes, they are adding social value and making a positive impact.

Every month we celebrate their efforts and this July we have some more great examples to share.

Supporting the Poplars Summer Fair: Making a Difference Together at DHU Healthcare

At DHU Healthcare, our commitment to compassionate care goes beyond our clinical services. We recognise the profound impact we can make in the lives of those we serve, and that's why we're proud to extend our support to the upcoming Poplars Summer Fair.

The Poplars, a beloved nursing home in Horninglow, Burton upon Trent, is all set to host its annual Summer Fair on Saturday, July 29th, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Rolleston Road, Burton. This event not only promises a day of fun and joy but also an opportunity for us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of its residents and show our unwavering support.

One person who understands the importance of our support firsthand is Ros Harvey, our Corporate Head of Clinical Governance. Ros's daughter, Alex (pictured right), is a dedicated member of the Poplars Care Home team, making this cause even more significant for us.

Ros shared her thoughts, saying, "The residents of care homes were among those most impacted by the pandemic, and this opportunity to support those staying in Poplars is a cause that is very important to me. Let us join together and make a positive impact in their lives."

Echoing her mother's sentiments, Alex Kibble, the activity lead at Poplars, emphasized the profound effects of the lockdown on the residents. She said, "We have an opportunity to make a difference and create meaningful experiences for our residents. Together, we can bring joy to those in our care."

The Summer Fair aims to raise funds for a special day trip to Twycross Zoo, where the residents can enjoy a joyful outing and create cherished memories. To make this day trip a reality, we kindly request your support in any way you can. Whether it's contributing donations for the raffle, tombola, cake stall, or any other means, your generosity will go a long way in bringing smiles to the faces of the ladies and gentlemen under the care of Poplars.

The Poplars Summer Fair promises to be a delightful day with games, live entertainment, and a tombola, ensuring an enjoyable time for all. By participating and contributing, you not only support the residents but also showcase the strength of our DHU Healthcare team and our unwavering dedication to improving lives.

Tyre Challenge - Take Two!

On August 9th, our remarkable Operations Manager, Debbie Kemp, will be pushing herself to the limit once again for a noble cause. This time, she's taking on the challenge of walking a full marathon, an impressive distance of 26.2 miles, all while carrying a 22lb tyre on her back.

The purpose of this challenging endeavor is to raise funds for two important causes: Cancer Research and AAJ, a Derbyshire community-based fitness and running club of which Debbie is a proud member.

Reflecting on her motivation, Debbie shared with us, "Last year, I completed a half marathon tyre challenge, and I also supported my grandson in his own tyre challenge. Now, I am determined to conquer a full marathon along the Skegness marathon route, with my trusty 2 stone tyre on my back."

"The funds raised through this effort will be allocated to support my fitness club, helping them acquire new equipment and cover venue costs to ensure smooth functioning of the club. This group holds a special place in my heart, and for many of its members, it has been a source of strength during their health struggles and weight loss journeys."

"Additionally, I will be donating a percentage of the proceeds to Cancer Research, a cause close to my heart. Embarking on this challenge will not only test me physically but also mentally. I am eagerly looking forward to pushing my boundaries and completing this final challenge before retiring the tyre for good!"

If you wish to follow Debbie's inspiring journey and support her in her mission, you can find more details on her Just Giving page here.

At DHU Healthcare, we believe that by coming together and supporting causes like the Poplars Summer Fair and Debbie's Tyre Challenge, we can truly make a difference in the lives of those we care for and the wider community.

Let us unite and continue to spread compassion, joy, and support to those in need.
