We’ve been sharing messages and challenges to our people this week (Monday 3rd to Friday 7th) to mark Race Equality Week and ensure our people know why we place such high importance on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
To end the week, we featured some words from Chief Executive Stephen Bateman that we’d like to share with everyone, that further emphasises how our values fit in with awareness weeks such as this one.
"At DHU Healthcare, we’re guided by our CARE values – striving to be Compassionate, Accomplished, Respectful, and Encouraging. These principles guide everything we do, and this week, they serve as a timely reminder – as we reflect on why everyone matters here, no matter who we are or what job we do.

"Marking Race Equality Week allows us to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace - where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
"The diversity we benefit from at DHU is a real strength. Our workplace embraces different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, enabling us to provide compassionate, high-quality care and services for our patients and communities. Race equality is also fundamental to achieving that mission – ensuring that every colleague has a voice, can speak up, and that we treat everyone fairly and respectfully.
"True inclusivity requires more than words, though; it also needs action. We must also be brave enough to challenge behaviours that don’t align with our values and call out discrimination when we see and hear it. It’s not always easy, but by holding ourselves and each other accountable, we create a culture where fairness, respect, and belonging are non-negotiable.
“As part of sharing this week’s Race Equality Week five-day challenge, I encourage all of us to engage in the conversations, activities, and learning opportunities we’re making available. Let’s take the time to reflect on how we can each contribute to an environment where inclusivity is not just a commitment, but a daily reality.
"Together, we can continue building a workplace that truly represents the communities we serve.
"Thank you for everything you do to make DHU a place where everyone belongs. "
