Earlier this year, DHU Healthcare launched their DHU New Year's Honours Awards, which gave colleagues the chance to nominate someone they felt deserved recognition for their outstanding work.

The nominations included inspiring stories of commitment, determination, and perseverance. It was a testament to the fact that every single nominee deserved their recognition, representing the remarkable efforts of each and every one of us at DHU.

Today, we would like to highlight two amazing Honours Awards recipients, both nominated by their colleague for their act of bravery and quick thinking in saving a man's life.

We take great pride in acknowledging the exceptional work of Samina Shaheen and Nicola Proudler, two members of our DHU team who were nominated by their colleague Jane for their selfless act of bravery during an Out of Hours shift.

Samina, a Community Staff Nurse, and Nicola, a Healthcare Assistant, were the first to arrive on scene when a man was in the process of trying to jump from a bridge in an attempt to take his own life. Despite the man's initial reluctance to accept help, Samina and Nicola were able to gain his trust and communicate effectively with him. Wearing their DHU uniforms likely helped to establish their authority and professionalism in the situation. Nicola was able to talk him down from the bridge, while Samina called for emergency services to assist them.

Their quick thinking, courage, and compassion were instrumental in saving the man's life. We are proud to have Samina and Nicola as part of our Out of Hours team and commend them for their bravery and dedication to helping others.

Stephen Bateman, Chief Executive Officer Said: "I am incredibly proud and admire the actions of Samina and Nicola, who exemplify the DHU CARE values by prioritising the well-being of others. Having personally met with them, I heard first hand about the events that transpired on the day and I consider myself fortunate to work alongside such selfless individuals.

"Their compassion and professionalism played a crucial role in savings a man's life, and I, and on behalf of the DHU Executives would like to thank them for their unwavering dedication to serving our people in the community."
