On July 15th DHU Health Care presented a local charity with a cheque for £7660 at the company’s Ashgate Manor Office in Chesterfield.
Funds were raised for the Air Ambulance charity by DHU colleagues who were vaccinated during the 2019 winter flu season.
Kerry Wilson (Community Fundraising Executive) and Camilla Raca (Senior Press Officer) from Air Ambulance were warmly welcomed by members of DHU’s Flu Planning Team, Jenny Tilson (Director of Nursing and Quality) and Daniel Graham (Lead Clinical Pharmacist) on the day to receive the cheque.
The Air Ambulance Service started in 2003 and operates the national Children’s Air Ambulance and the local air ambulance services for Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Their two helicopters and two critical care cars provide a rapid response to trauma and medical emergencies over an area of 3,850 square miles. They cover many of the UK’s major road networks, responding quickly to accidents and emergencies throughout the year.
Community Fundraising Executive, Kerry Wilson, added: “We are extremely grateful to DHU Healthcare who have donated a fabulous £7,660 to our lifesaving service”.
“Our crews have been continuing to provide vital critical care on the frontline during this difficult time and this huge amount has come at a time when we need it most as many fundraising activities have come to standstill during the Covid-19 crisis.”
Over the 2019 flu season DHU aimed and succeeded in vaccinated a large amount of their staff. The Flu Team worked hard throughout the year to raise awareness and vaccinate a workforce spread throughout the region across many different sites.
The charity was chosen by members of the Flu Team to highlight charitable work done throughout the East Midlands and Northampton areas the company operates from.
Jenny Tilson, Director of Nursing and Quality at DHU said: “The Air Ambulance work tirelessly around the clock to provide a rapid response to critical medical emergencies. Their hard-working teams show compassion and courageousness daily as they save lives and rescue patients in life threatening situations.
“The Air Ambulance Service covers counties across East Midlands, similarly in which DHU Health Care provides services. As such, the charity was a perfect fit to support our last annual flu vaccination donation and we are sure that it will make a difference to the care they provide during this tough time.”
She added that “All the money donated, was raised during DHU Health Care’s annual flu vaccination campaign of our workforce. We would like to stress the importance to everyone, particularly during Covid-19, that they consider having their annual flu vaccination over the coming winter period.”
