Three Years of Growth, One Meaningful Gift

DHU's Ciaron Reeder, who is part our NHS 111 team, has turned three years of growing his hair into something that will make a lasting difference to children facing illness. What began as a personal experiment to grow his hair to shoulder length gradually became something more meaningful.

"It got to the point where it was getting annoying, it kept getting caught when I rolled over in bed, and my mum said, instead of just letting it sit on the barbershop floor, why not donate it to charity so it could actually be used?"

Supporting Young People Through Little Princess Trust

After researching options, Ciaron chose Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real-hair wigs to children and young people who lose their hair through cancer treatment or conditions such as alopecia. Through their partnered salons, the donation process was simple and even included a free haircut.

Ciaron chose to have his hair cut into a full buzz cut, allowing as much hair as possible to be donated. In total, 16 inches of hair were collected—enough to make two wigs for young girls who need them.

Why It Matters

"For a lot of girls, long hair is part of their identity. If this helps them feel like themselves again while they're going through everything else, then that's something I really wanted to do."

This thoughtful act reflects the compassion, humility and social impact that runs through DHU Healthcare. Ciaron's dedication demonstrates how individual actions can create meaningful change in the lives of those who need it most.

A huge thank you to Ciaron for turning a haircut into something that will bring confidence and comfort to children who need it most.
