More than 100 children at Newton Primary School in Derbyshire learned vital life-saving skills when DHU Healthcare Resuscitation Officer and Paramedic Jack Evans visited as part of Restart a Heart Day 2025.
During the session, pupils practised CPR, learned how to use a defibrillator, and discovered the recovery position, gaining the confidence to step in and help someone in an emergency. They also had the chance to explore an ambulance, try the siren, and learn more about what happens during a real medical response.
Jack delivered the session as part of his volunteer work with St John Ambulance, combining his passion for emergency care with DHU’s commitment to improving health and wellbeing within the community.
“It was brilliant to see how enthusiastic the children were about learning CPR,” said Jack. “We trained over 100 pupils in one day, and they all got involved…asking questions, practising on the mannequins and even teaching each other. Hopefully, they’ve gone home and shown their families what they learned. Knowing what to do in an emergency can save a life, and it’s never too early to start learning.”
The visit formed part of the national Restart a Heart campaign, which aims to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and increase the number of people trained in CPR. For DHU Healthcare, it’s also a great example of how colleagues are delivering social impact - giving their time, skills and experience to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.
