Back in September 2022, during the Pakistan Flood Appeal, one of our colleagues decided to take a unique approach to fundraising for the cause.

Gemma Crouch (NHS 111 Patient Experience Facilitator) has always had a passion for art and wanted to find a way to combine that with her fundraising. She decided to draw portraits of colleagues' pets and sell them to raise money for a small donation.

The response from colleagues has been overwhelmingly positive, with many eager to have a portrait of their beloved pet. Altogether Gemma has raised £89.50 for those affected by the floods!

Gemma said: “I started digital art back in April 2022. My favourite thing about digital art is the ability to use any colour you can think of and also the use of layers to add depth to the images. Getting used to how the pen flows on a tablet, rather than a piece of paper was definitely a steep learning curve for me hence why I prefer the more cartoon-ish style – I can do more detailed work, but it does take much longer.

“Even though the flooding happened back in September, the people impacted will take a long time to recover, both physically and mentally, from what has happened. I’m glad to see that my art has actually helped them in some way!”

This is just one example of the many ways that our people can make a difference in their community and help support a cause they care about. With a little creativity and dedication, anyone can come up with a unique fundraising idea and make a positive impact.
