We like to showcase the amazing work our people do for you and for us and today we’re back in Corby to introduce you to Lysanda Madzinga who is a GP at the Urgent Treatment Centre.
DHU began providing services from Corby UTC on Saturday 1st November but Lysanda’s story there started 13 years ago, here’s what he told us…
“I started off as a sessional GP, covering shifts when they needed me, before joining as a salaried GP in 2019. I enjoy working with my patients and have developed strong roots; I feel I belong here and the people I work with have been like a second family to me.
“We try to educate people…”
“I’m always seeing patients, and we can get all sorts of conditions through the door, not all of whom necessarily need to be here. Part of what we do is try to educate people about where best to receive their care. People sometimes come because they can’t get an appointment somewhere else, other times they really should be at A&E but we help where we can.
"If someone comes here with a condition that can be dealt with by a Pharmacist or GP, we will try and refer them. Similarly, if a patient comes with what turns out to be a life-threatening condition or we deem to be an emergency, we can call an ambulance to ensure they get the right care. Everyone else, we priotitise according to the urgent need of the patient.
“Togetherness…”
“I’ve always enjoyed working here but since DHU arrived, the support for us to carry out our clinical roles has improved. We have specific people to turn to for IT queries, clinical processes, finance queries and know who to go to for anything else. Seeing how our new DHU colleagues came together and got involved with all of us to launch their service on time showed a togetherness that made us all feel very welcome, that we’re a team.
“We’ve already seen the introduction of the eTriage system and we’ve had a glimpse of how a UTC should perform with appointment systems streamlined to help us increase patient capacity. It bodes well for the future and I’m full of hope that we can achieve together for each other and our patients.”
