We like to showcase our people and tell you about the brilliant work they do for you and today we’re back in Corby to highlight our Urgent Treatment Centre reception team.
First impressions are important and chances are they will be the first people you see so, we’re very lucky to have a kind, compassionate and welcoming team. We spoke to Julia Olahova and Rhea Napier to learn more about what they do…
“We tend to see people when they’re feel bad, hurt or poorly so it’s important to make them feel better with the right, helpful attitude,” Julia told us. “We don’t know what they’ve been through to get to us and may not feel themselves, so we try to make them feel at ease, ensure they’re given a warm welcome and that we put them in the right frame of mind before they get the care they need.
“We’ve just had the e-Triage system installed which is designed to streamline the check-in process and help our clinical teams to prioritise the most poorly patients, we can support that and answer any questions patients might have. Personally, I love to socialise and talk to people which is what attracted me to the job in the first place, I love finding out about people and helping wherever I can.
"We're helping people get the care they need..."
Rhea added: “I’ve been here since May 2022, and our role is a varied one. We help to book in patients who have been referred from other services such as 111 or their GP and we also do referrals, for example to the eye clinic. We make sure patients know where they need to go once they’ve arrived, scan patient reports, also helping with the patient discharge process.
“My background is in an office environment and this role has been a change of pace; much busier but also more enjoyable and rewarding knowing that we’re helping people get the care they need. This UTC is a very important place for the community, there aren’t many places people can get the care they need nearby, and we help to bridge that gap.”
And whilst they leave it to others to provide the clinical care, it’s the reception team who provide the warm welcome and reassurance.
Julia added: “We have a great team here at Corby and everyone on reception is proud to play a part. If a patient has a question or needs help more quickly, we can call on a clinician if we notice a patient’s condition is deteriorating. We frequently have 300 or more people needing care here every day and each one of them will see us first. I just hope that we give them the reassurance they need that they will be looked after and we will do everything we can together to help them feel better.”
