We’re proud to introduce Jay Rai, our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Lead, who joined DHU Healthcare earlier this year.

With more than 16 years of experience working in global organisations, Jay brings a depth of specialist knowledge, training expertise and cultural insight that is already helping to shape a more inclusive and supportive experience with us across DHU.

Jay told us: “I’ve spent my entire career working in people-focused roles, beginning with a BA and MA in HR Management and later completing my CIPD Level 7. Very early on, I realised my passion was in training, development and ensuring people felt truly supported in the workplace.

“My first role involved helping individuals from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds access corporate jobs, including people with disabilities and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. It gave me a real insight into the barriers people face long before they enter employment, and that has shaped my whole approach to EDIB.

“Over the years I’ve delivered training on topics including unconscious bias, microaggressions, intersectionality and inclusive progression, working with organisations such as Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, Rolls-Royce, Santander and JLL. What I’ve learned is that inclusion isn’t about ticking boxes; it’s about understanding people. We need empathy, curiosity and accountability.

“Since joining DHU, I’ve been focusing on building practical learning content, designing cultural awareness sessions and supporting our eight colleague networks. I’m also progressing our work towards Inclusive Employers accreditation and Disability Confident Level 2. I’m here to make sure every colleague feels they can belong, contribute and thrive, whether they’re in a clinical role, NHS 111, corporate services, primary or urgent care.

“What’s stood out to me most about DHU is the genuine commitment to people. There’s a real appetite here for learning, improving and understanding each other better, and that makes such a difference in the work we’re able to do. I’ve already started collaborating with teams across the organisation, from clinical leaders to corporate services, to embed inclusive practices into how we recruit, onboard, manage and develop our colleagues. We’re also strengthening our colleague voice by amplifying the work of our networks and making sure colleagues feel seen, listened to and supported. DHU has the foundations of a truly inclusive culture, and I’m excited to help build on that.”

With her passion, experience and commitment to meaningful change, Jay is helping DHU to strengthen its culture, empower its people and ensure every colleague feels valued and supported.
