At DHU Healthcare, caring for our communities begins with caring for our people. This honest reflection from one of our colleagues highlights the compassion, understanding and teamwork that underpin our values every day.

“I enjoy working at DHU – they are a company that truly lives their values.

Within a couple of weeks of starting training as a Health Advisor, my daughter became ill and my mum passed away suddenly. I knew I wouldn’t be able to concentrate or continue with the training, so I took some time out. It was the most difficult time of my life, and I had so much to sort out. I was even willing to hand in my notice because I couldn’t give a clear time frame for returning.

My trainer reassured me that it was absolutely fine and encouraged me to take the time I needed. She stayed in touch throughout, offering support without any pressure, and put me in contact with my manager, who was equally supportive.

When I returned, I was nervous, but I felt fully supported by the training team. I knew that if I needed a moment, that was OK and that took the pressure off me.

Everyone I’ve met is supportive and genuinely caring, whatever their role. I work with an amazing pod – we all look out for each other, whether it’s with a joke, a hug or a chocolate.

I really enjoy the job. It’s completely different from anything I’ve done before, and I could never have imagined that the nervous little me would one day assess patients as quickly and thoroughly as the Health Advisors I observed during training!

The thing I’m most proud of is listening to each patient and making sure they get to the service that’s most appropriate for the care they need. I always feel I’m doing the very best I can for them.

As a slightly older lady, I’ve worked in a few different caring environments, all of which I’ve loved. But for me, the support and genuine care from colleagues here truly goes above and beyond.”
