Two DHU Healthcare nurses have been recognised at one of the UK’s most prestigious awards.
Mandie Jarvis, Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner, and Catherine Hardy, Advanced Clinical Trainer, have both been handed the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Community Nursing.
The Queen’s Nurse title is awarded by the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN) and has a long and respected history, having been established in 1887 by Queen Victoria to promote excellence and high standards in community nursing. Today, the title continues to recognise nurses who demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and a sustained commitment to improving care for patients and communities.
Achieving Queen’s Nurse status is no small feat, with those put forward having to demonstrate the impact they make across their practice, learning and leadership. It involves extensive reflection, peer support and professional endorsement, making it one of the most respected recognitions within community nursing.
Mandie’s award showcases her incredible career and influence within community nursing, alongside the work she does at at DHU Healthcare supporting high standards in infection prevention and control. Characteristically modest about the recognition, Mandie reflected on what the award means to her saying:
“I feel incredibly grateful and a little overwhelmed to be recognised in this way. Community nursing has always been about teamwork, learning from others and doing the best for patients. I wouldn’t have been able to apply without the encouragement and support of colleagues, and I see this as recognition of the work we do together rather than something personal.”

Catherine Hardy’s award also reflects her significant contribution to community nursing through her role as an Advanced Clinical Trainer, supporting learning, development and clinical excellence across services. While Catherine was unfortunately unable to attend the recent ceremony due to illness, her achievement is equally deserving of celebration.
Mandie and Catherine join several other DHU colleagues who have previously received the Queen’s Nurse title, including Helen Johnson, Caroline Hannan, and Tracy Fudge. This growing network of Queen’s Nurses across DHU highlights the organisation’s strong commitment to professional development, leadership and high-quality community care.
Helen Johnson, Professional Practice Development Manager, said: “Both Mandie and Catherine put an enormous amount of work into achieving this award. It’s wonderful to see their expertise and contribution recognised nationally, and it really reflects the quality of community nursing practice at DHU.”
DHU Healthcare is incredibly proud of Mandie, Catherine and all of our Queen’s Nurses, whose dedication continues to make a meaningful difference to patients, families and communities every day.
