Since the start of October DHU Health Care has been encouraging people to be vaccinated against the flu virus with their ‘Flu Romance’ campaign.
The DHU Flu Fighter team are recreating two famous rom-coms scenes from ’10 Things I Hate about You’ and ‘Love Actually’ as a light hearted way to remind colleagues, and the wider public, to get their flu vaccination. You can watch the first video below:
Neil Jones, Infection Prevention & Control Lead for DHU Health Care, said that the message the team wanted to share was: “Being healthy won’t stop you getting flu or passing it on. The flu virus can affect anybody, and even someone with no visible symptoms is still at risk of passing the virus on. That’s why it’s important to get your free flu jab as soon as possible to protect yourself, your loved ones and your patients.”
The target for this year’s campaign is to vaccinate over 80% of all DHU Health Care staff and the Flu Fighters Team are working hard to reach around 2000 people across dozens of sites.
For each free flu vaccination administered to staff DHU Health Care will also be donating to the East Midlands Air Ambulance Charity whose role it is to provide the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) in the Midland Counties of England.
Flu can be a serious illness and for many people it may be fatal. On average 8,000 people die from the flu every year, but in the winter of 2017/18, there were an estimated 26,000 deaths. Last year 1700 people died from the flu virus, with admissions to hospital adding extra pressure to services during the busy winter period.
Across the country the 2019 vaccination campaign will be one of the biggest ever with around 25 million people being offered free vaccinations. This year is also the first in which every Primary School child in England is being offered the flu vaccination.
