On Friday September 20th members of DHU Health Care took part in the annual Midlands Charity Football Tournament in Powerleague, Derby.
The ninth event, organised by Sellick Partnership, saw 20 local teams play 5-a-side football in the to raise funds for the charity me&dee.
me&dee was a charity founded by Maria Hanson MBE to create special moments and memories to both children and adults who have a life threatening, life shortening or a terminal condition.
Since starting 13 years ago they have grown to helping over 100 families each year. Maria Hanson MBE said: “Almost 3,000 families have been helped over this time, from the early days of a ‘treat’ charity to now providing a full week’s holiday at no charge, in our two luxurious static caravans based on the Grange Leisure Park in Mablethorpe, just five minutes’ drive from the town, the endless miles of beach and the included private sea front beach hut.”
DHU fielded three teams, with members joining from all over the company, to take part in the challenging and fast paced 2019 event against local organisations. Despite sterling efforts from all involved (including the odd injury or two) DHU Team 2 and 3 didn’t quite have enough fuel in the tank to break out of the group stage.
It was DHU Team 1, however, that made it through to the quarter finals with two wins and a draw at the group level. They went on to play Chevin Fleet in an extremely tight match that finished with a 4-4 draw. With no clear winner the teams went to a sudden death penalty shoot-out in which DHU were cruelly knocked out of the tournament.
The winners of the 2019 league were Chevin Fleet Solutions, with Medicruit finishing second place.
The incredibly well organised event was an excellent opportunity to build relationships with local companies, raise money for an excellent cause and burn off a few extra calories before the weekend.
Well done to everyone who took part. Here’s hoping DHU go all the way next year!
