On Friday 29th March 2019 DHU Health Care CIC will be celebrating its 30th birthday.
DHU Health Care plans a series of events and activities to mark the company’s 30th birthday celebrations which commence on the official anniversary on Friday 29th March. This is the day the company began operating out of hours health care services in 1989.
On the day the company will be having ‘The Big30 Cake Drop’ to celebrate the event. 1,600 cup cakes with the DHU 30th Birthday Celebration logo have been commissioned to be shared with as many DHU colleagues in as many locations as possible to mark the milestone.
DHU Health Care provides a range of services, including out-of-hours, NHS 111 and integrated urgent care across the East Midlands and Milton Keynes. Originally operating in Derbyshire, they have expanded into Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire and Milton Keynes.
CEO Stephen Bateman said: “In March we are reaching a significant milestone in our history with our 30th year anniversary celebrations. It is an honour to be part of the DHU team at this time, and I pay tribute to all of our staff over the last 30 years that have been part of the DHU family and kept patients at the heart of the healthcare services we provide.
“I am looking forward to celebrating this landmark anniversary with all our staff and having another opportunity to say thank you for the dedication, commitment and great care they provide to our patients, and the support they provide each other every day as part of our integrated urgent care services.”
Derbyshire Health United was created in 2006 by merging a Chesterfield based company called ‘Derbyshire Healthcare Limited’ (DHC) and a Derby City based company called ‘Derbyshire Medical Services Limited’ (DMS). In 2017 the company became DHU Health Care CIC, a community interest company.
As the founding organisations were locally based, they brought significant experience and knowledge to DHU for meeting the health needs of the local population.
Phillip Cox, one of the founding GP’s of DHC, spoke about the changes: “With the addition of new contracts the company has grown out of all recognition. The complexity and professionalism of our company bears no resemblance to the founder companies. Even though the number of employees has grown the underlying ethos of giving high quality personal care remains.”
The company continues to grow and has expanded into Northamptonshire and extended its urgent care offer into Milton Keynes. Both of these contracts are due to commence on April 1, 2019, and preparations are well on the way towards another successful mobilisation.
