Mental Health First Aid

DHU Health Care are offering 1 day courses for people to develop an awareness of Mental Health First Aid

As well as developing an understanding of your own mental health, this fully accredited one day course will teach you to support colleagues who may be facing mental health issues, and improve understanding and attitudes towards mental health in the workplace.

What is MHFA?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an globally recognised training course, designed to teach you how to help a person who may be developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or be in a mental health crisis.

Like traditional first aid, MHFA is an immediate intervention which allows students to better recognise mental health issues and support colleagues by signposting them to additional help.

What will you achieve from the course?

This day long course provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise the symptoms of mental ill-health
  • Provide initial help
  • Guide the person towards appropriate professional help
  • Be mindful of their own well-being.

The course is delivered by a FAA accredited instructor and upon completion students will awarded the FAA Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health (Level 1 RQF). After completing the course you can then use your new skills in the workplace and can help colleagues with a mental health issue receive the support they need to recover or manage their symptoms.

“I believe that we all learn in different ways, I use different methods to accommodate everyone on my courses.”
